Failure....

Hello World!

I have not been doing so well on my health and fitness journey. ):  This has proven to be one of the most difficult things that I have attempted to accomplish.  I have been very discouraged lately but I am determined to keep trying.  I have decided that I will start a juice fast on February 1st until my birthday on the 24th.  I am excited to start this fast.  I have been unfortunately eating a lot of crappy foods, so my body could use a good detox.  Anyway guys I will be back to check in on the first day of my fast.  I will also be documenting my fast on YouTube.  Talk to you then!

For those of you who are like me, never give up on your journey to optimum health and fitness.  Although you may give in, its never too late to jump back on the horse and start over.

My first visit to Trader Joe's!!

Today the family and I decided to visit the Trader Joe's that was recently built in our town. My hubby hates going to Whole Foods, because of the crowds and limited space to shop comfortably and of course, he hates the prices.  We thought Trader Joe's would be the same but we were very wrong.  Although the building was smaller, there were less people there.  This could very well be because it is new in the area but there was a parking lot full of cars and I was still able to move around comfortably in the store.

The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the lower prices.  The prices were lower on many produce items compared to Whole Foods.  However, Trader Joe's has gotten a lot of backlash about their produce because a lot of it comes from other countries.  I did not see a huge selection of items that were from local farms.  Whole Foods, although more expensive, has a lot of items to choose from locally.  Despite some backlash I can say that the produce looked great!   The meat looked good; the organic meat looked awesome, but pricey as usual.  The best thing that I seen on my quick visit was the uniqueness in the items they carried.  Although I was afraid to try to try some of these items, I did purchase a few things while I was there.  I bought the Trader Joe's Next to Godliness dish soap, some grape seed oil, two cuts of rib eye beef, mushrooms, bag of apples, two red pears, ground pepper, and pizza dough.  My total came out to 30.33 with tax.

Okay hubby thinks I could have gotten that at Wal-Mart for a lot cheaper but the meat was a great deal and I know Wal-Mart meat would have been a little more expensive.  I know I would not have found the grape seed oil or the red pears in my local Wal-Mart and if it had it would have been ridiculously expensive ( I had just went to Wal-Mart in search of the Grape Seed oil , my search was fruitless).    I used to be a die hard Wal-Mart shopper until I started comparing prices to Kroger and other stores and I noticed that the quality was better in other stores and I was not really saving much by shopping in Wal-Mart, especially when it comes to meat.  Do not get me wrong, I still shop at Wal-Mart just not exclusively.  Anyways guys overall, I enjoyed my trip to Trader Joe's, everyone was helpful and I will more than likely be a frequent customer.  I will let you guys know about my upcoming trips and what the best items are to purchase from there.  Reviews coming soon!! Thanks for reading!

Three day juice fast

So I went on a three day juice fast with the hubby.  This was not my first go around with juicing.  This past summer, I went on a five-day juice fast after watching Fat Sick and Nearly Dead.  That documentary jump started my hidden fitness lioness and I was ready.  I will talk about that five-day period later in another post.

Anywho, we successfully made it through the three days.  My hubby was kind of resistant at first but he pushed through.  I also had my moments of imagining my postman was a cheeseburger or taco…and the post man thought he should just be afraid of dog bites.  :S

Although this was not my first juice fast, this one was different.  My husband was watching the infamous Dr. OZ and heard him talking about the benefits of a detox by juicing or blending.   However,  I was in a bit of a tizzy because I have told him this PLENTY of times before, but at least Dr. Oz was able to reach him.  So I decided to be supportive and follow this three day fast that Dr. Oz recommended.  You guys can check it out here if you would like.  http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/dr-ozs-3-day-detox-cleanse-one-sheet

Needless to say, the ingredients were different than what I had used before in my previous juice fast.  Normally I only used green vegetable and some fruits.  In this new regimen, you may have things like almond butter, green tea, coconut oil, and almond milk.  This method is great for people like hubs who are just starting out.  The morning smoothie with the almond butter tasted like a peanut butter smoothie, although I am not a huge peanut butter fan, it was delicious.

The green tea I purchased, was not bad at all.
This diet also recommends drinking green tea every morning before you drink anything else.  I despise green tea, but the one I purchased with addition to the lemon, it was tolerable.  Doing this juice fast helped me spice things up and added new things to my otherwise boring juice.

So in the three day, I lost 6 pounds and hubby lost around the same amount.  All in all I would do this again but hubs, although excited he lost weight, is not down with the juice and wants to do it “his way” which is fine.  I will also be tracking his weight loss here as well.
Peace and happy holidays!!

Getting some rib action

Is my title appropriate??  For those with their minds in the gutter like me...lol I mean real ribs, you know, that edible kind, not the condom.

So guys, I kicked off my health journey with a huge plate of saucy ribs...okay maybe that is not a good start to a health journey but I figured I would have a goodbye meal.  Today I noticed that eating healthy is more of a mental game.  My mind said, "Hey, you know you want some ribs!", but now I am paying for that. My stomach is killing me and had to take my medicine that was recently prescribed  to me to calm it down.

That leads me into another reason I have decided to go on a health and fitness journey: my health problems.  I have many stomach issues and I know that many of these issues can be remedied by change of diet.  The first time I discovered that I could have a medicine free accompanied with a pain free lifestyle is when I went on my first juice fast for about a week.  However, that experience will be left for another blog post.

Lets see in the next weeks or months to come, if I can mentally overcome the temptation to physically stuff unhealthy food down my throat.
Can I do it??  Only time will tell!!

My fitness journey thus far

Height: 5'5
Weight 137

So I have frequently been asked, why exactly are you going on a health and fitness journey if you are not really over weight?  I always respond with HEALTH of course!!  My house is not very big at all, but I manage to break out in a full sweat and give full huffs and puffs by the time I walk from one end to the other. What do you call this guys?  I'm not quite sure what you call it, but I call it out of shape.

Okay so  I exaggerated and poked my stomach out a bit but my stomach is a problem area for me...My nefew did ask me if I was prego though.....NO NO I am not :(  lol
My infatuation of becoming healthy came when I first stumbled upon the documentary section of my Netflix   As a lover of documentaries, I was like a kid in biased documentary heaven.  That's were my crash course in the dangers of processed food and what they do to your body crushed my fast food wonderland and served me up a plate of doom.

From my fleeting attempts to live a healthy life, I can personally attest to the difference in quality of life when healthy eating habits are incorporated.  Although I have incorporated healthy eating habits, I am not satisfied with my health and fitness as of today.  This blog will provide information and chart my health and fitness journey.  I hope that you tag along in this adventure with me.
